So, let’s run through our top four Bond-inspired costumes for Halloween 2023.
1. Classic Bond
Let’s start with the most obvious idea from the Bond series—James Bond. Since the 1960s, James Bond has been an excellent Halloween costume idea. It’s a clean, elegant look, which comes with a catchphrase, toy prop, and even a signature cocktail.
To pull off the classic James Bond look, the one he would wear to pull up to a Blackjack table or top shelf bar, you’ll want to start with a black tuxedo. (A black suit will also work in a pinch.) Tie on a black bow tie, slick your hair back, and practice your key line—Bond, James Bond.
Sean Connery and Daniel Craig have both donned a white suit coat in Bond films as well, so pairing a white suit coat over black pants with a black bowtie also executes the Classic Bond look perfectly.
Signature cocktail: Blackwell Rum “Black Jack”, served in a martini glass and complete with frozen watermelon dice. Shaken, not stirred of course.
Prop: Toy pistol. Strap on a gun holster inside of your jacket to really complete the look
Catchphrase: Bond, James Bond
2. Honey Rider
Honey Rider is the original Bond girl, staring in the first ever Bond film, Dr. No, which was released in 1962. In that classic fil, Honey Rider steals numerous scenes—particularly the meet cute scene when she emerges from tropical Jamaican waters in a white bikini, a knife at her side and shells in her hands, as she meets a young Sean Connery.
Honey is still revered today, over 60 years later, as the quintessential Bond girl. To capture her iconic look start with a simple white bikini, and a white belt complete with a knife holder. You’ll also want to have a blond wig and a conch shell to compete the full look.
Signature cocktail: We recommend pairing your Honey Rider outfit with one of our favorite signature cocktails, the Goldeneye Cocktail. The sweetness of the pineapple fits Honey perfectly.
Prop: A diving or hunting style knife strapped around your waist and a conch (or any giant sea shell) in your hand.
Catchphrase: You can blow the conch, or try out “What are you doing here, looking for shells?” That’s her characters classic first line that she speaks to Bond during their meet cute, which he replies to with the cheeky—Oh no, I’m just looking.)
3. Odd Job
Odd Job is one of the Bond franchises most famous and endearing bad guys. Most famous for his hat with a razors edge that he would throw as a weapon, Odd Job was an extremely memborable character starting with his first appearance in the 1964 James Bond film titled Goldfinger.
According to Carbon Costume, “Odd Job (Harold Sakata) is the manservant, henchman, golf caddy, and chauffeur to the villain Auric Goldfinger. He is a mute, physically strong man that smiles during a fight and uses his steel-tipped hat as a lethal weapon. A fan-favorite, he has appeared in numerous video games and novels. Like every good manservant, he dresses smartly in a black suit with his signature Sandringham hat.”
Dressing like Odd Job is fairly straightforward, and highlighted by the signature hat. Start with a 3-piece black suit and a black tie over a standard white dress shite. Finally, black dress shoes, and sandringham style black hat, which you can add the appearance of metal or razors to around the rim.
Signature cocktail: Pair your Odd Job outfit with a Blackwell Swizzle cocktail
Prop: The famous razor-edge hat, which is also apart of the outfit.
Catchphrase: Odd Job was entirely mute during his scenes in Goldfinger. He let his stature, huge smile, and famous hat do the talking.
4. Jaws
For those who grew up in the 1980s and 90s and played hours of Goldeneye the video game on Nintendo 64 after getting home from school, this costume suggestion is for you. Jaws is one of the Bond’s series most memorable henchmen, and one of the games best characters!
Jaws first appeared in the 1977 film The Spy Who Loved Me as a henchman to the primary villain, Karl Stromberg. According to Carbon Costume, Jaws was “a favorite henchman among James Bond fans, Jaws (Richard Kiel) is a brute of a man, tall and strong, with signature metal teeth that can cut through steel. He appears in two films: The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker, working for different villains in each one.”
To dress like Jaws, you’ll want to start with brown shoes, and brown dress pants with a black belt. On top you’ll just want a basic white dress shirt with red suspenders. Then, to complete the costume, you’ll need Jaws metal teeth.
Signature cocktail: Pair your Jaws costume with the Black and Ginger cocktail, served in a whiksey tumbler. Both it’s punchy ginger flavor and the whiskey tumbler perfectly suit Jaws tough exterior.
Prop: Jaws metal teeth are his signature feature, so your prop is in your mouth.
Catchphrase: There’s no catchphrase associated with Jaws (he was actually left mute when a doctor created his metal jaw and teeth), so just show off those beautiful, shiny teeth!
