New Trailer For Bob Marley Out Today (And Guess Who Is Playing Chris Blackwell)

Over the last ten years, we’ve gotten some incredible biopics about some of history's greatest artists and bands. Elton John, Elvis, Judy Garland, Queen, NWA, and Motley Crue (to name a few) have all had amazing new films made about them in the past decade.

It’s such a treat to be given behind-the-scenes access to the story, background, and drama that led to the classic songs we know all the lyrics to. We get a curated slice of our favorite musician's lives from interviews and performances, but a well-made biopic tells the entire story. A truly deep feature-length biopic film allows the viewer to know the artist on a whole different level than was previously possible.

For music lovers, these films are pure gold. If you fall into the music lover category, you’ll be especially pleased to know that one of music's all-time greatest legends has a biopic on the horizon for early 2024. We will finally have a full length feature film about the legend—Bob Marley and the trailer is out today - best enjoyed with a Blackwell Rum

Legend happens to be the name of his most famous record, and it couldn’t be more fitting as a description of Bob himself. He’s got well over a dozen songs that even the most casual music fans can sing along to. In every corner of the world people jam Marley’s music. His catalog is even loved by people young and old. Basically, he is loved by everyone, everywhere.

Like all good biopics, this film will explore the upbringing and story behind Bob Marley’s music; the music we all know so well. However, his story and the history of reggae music as an art form would be very different without one key character—Chris Blackwell. Chris Blackwell is the founder of Island Records (as well as Blackwell Rum) and is largely credited with bringing Bob Marley and reggae music in general to the masses.

Island Records, born in Jamaica, brought many artists fame and prominence, but none more so than Bob Marley. Chris is a music titan in his own right, having already been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the impact he made on the world through Island Records. His story and Bob’s story are intimately linked, and we only have to wait a few more months to see their relationship explored on the silver screen.

The upcoming Paramount film is called “One Love” and stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob himself, along with an amazing supporting cast.

The character of Chris Blackwell will be played by the endearing James Norton. Bob’s son, Ziggy Marley, along with other members of the Marley family are producing the film, so audiences can be certain that accuracy and authenticity will be well accounted for. Many elements of Bob’s early life and rise to fame have numerous versions or competing perspectives, so it’ll be fascinating to see how the movie portrays a number of things. The movie centers around the period of Bob’s life when he narrowly avoided an assassination attempt, only to return to Jamaica to play a concert in the name of peace. His music, message, and life story, all share the same undeniable characteristic—legendary. It’s safe to assume the upcoming film about him will fit that description as well. [2]
