007: Road To A Million Features Blackwell Rum In The Bone Brothers’ Challenge

James Bond fans worldwide have been eagerly awaiting the first live-action reality show inside the Bond universe, ever since 007: Road To A Million was announced earlier this year. Thankfully, the wait is over, and you can now stream all eight episodes of the action-packed adventure on Amazon Prime Video. The team-based competition has proved worthy of the Bond title, and Brian Cox (of HBO’s Succession) fits a classic Bond villain to perfection.

In this live-action game with dramatic settings and incredibly high stakes, Cox plays the role of “The Controller,” sending the teams of two on wild Bond-like adventures to find their next question. However, that’s not the end of the challenge—teams must then answer the question correctly—and if they fail, they’re removed from the competition. Make it to the very end, and one million pounds is up for grabs.

The game-makers wanted to infuse the competition with as many details, ideas, and flavors from the world of James Bond as possible. Many of the settings, challenges, and clues can be tied directly to something out of a classic Bond film. This intention of keeping the live-action gameshow rich with Bond history and lore is how Blackwell Rum became a key part of one of the challenges.

Blackwell Rum, just like the concept of James Bond, was born in Jamaica. Yes, the character James Bond is a British secret agent, but the idea for the character himself was born on the North Coast of Jamaica after Ian Fleming began calling the island home, popularly known as “GoldenEye” - now operating as a luxury hotel. Beyond Jamaica being the location of where Fleming penned his first 12 spy books, the island slowly became a part of the stories themselves. GoldenEye features at the start of episode 5, along with Glenroy - one of the staff - who is well-known by the frequenting guests.

In the very first Bond film, Dr. No (1962), Jamaica is a primary setting for the adventure. You might easily recall the tropical Jamaican waters from the famous scene when character Honey Ryder exits the ocean holding a conch with a large knife at her waist. In total, three Bond films have been shot in Jamaica, including Live And Let Die (1973) and No Time To Die (2021). The island and film franchise remain closely linked, which is how Jamaican rum ended up becoming a key question in 007: Road To A Million.

At the end of episode five, The Bones Brothers from South London have made their way along the daring Bond-inspired journey. The Controller has led the brothers to their next challenge which involves free-diving off of a catamaran in Jamaica, searching among the coral for their next clue. When they finally unearth a briefcase from a sunken chest, back on deck they open it to find a bottle of our very own Blackwell rum inside along with two tumblers.

The question is revealed, but the answer is a cliffhanger for the beginning of episode six, which begins with the Bone Brothers back on the boat. The brothers are meant to pour two glasses of rum, have a taste test, and then answer a question about the primary notes of Jamaican Rum.

Would you move on to the next challenge? Would you make it to the final million? Be sure to tune in to the series with your Blackwell Rum in hand.
